A majority of people in jail in the United States are being held there pretrial,* largely because they simply can't afford to pay bail. This creates a two-tiered justice system, one where the wealthy walk free and the impoverished suffer most, and devastates entire communities long-term.
The Bail Project has proven that it's not bail that gets people to return to court; it's support. They aim to change the system. With your vote, perhaps some of this year's Project for Awesome funds can make its way to this worthy organization.
